Taking a tough stand, the Cricket Board today warned that any player aligning with the rebel Indian Cricket League will be banned for life from playing for India.
The Board also said that players signing up for the break-away league will also be barred from taking part in all domestic tournaments.
"Our stand is very clear. Players who take part in the ICL will never be eligible to play for the country again. It is upto the players to decide what they want to do," BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah told PTI here.
Asked whether the ban would also be applicable for young players who have not played for the country yet, Shah said "definitely. It is applicable for all players."BCCI President Sharad Pawar also said in Bangalore that withdrawal of Kapil Dev's retirement benefit would be discussed at the Board's General Body meeting on August 21 in Mumbai.
"Withdrawing retirement benefits to Kapil Dev is one of the issues going to be discussed at the BCCI meeting," he said.
Kapil, who is the Chairman of the ICL's Executive Board, has dared the BCCI to sack him as the Chairman of the National Cricket Academy.
"If any former player would like to play, organise matches here and there, the Board has nothing to say. Only question is suppose somebody is going to organise regular matches, I don't think it's proper without the approval of BCCI," Pawar said.
